Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik will be returning to the Indian team after being dropped from the side post the 2019 ODI World Cup in England.

Karthik revived his international career by performing brilliantly in the IPL 2022 season for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He got a call up for the national squad ahead of the 5-match T20I series against South Africa at home.

On the day of the first T20I, former cricketer Wasim Jaffer described the comeback of Karthik through a scene from the Bollywood movie, ‘Karan Arjun’.

“Dinesh Karthik has been picked to bat in that kind of position” – Rahul Dravid

Team India head coach Rahul Dravid said that Karthik’s role will remain the same as it was in the IPL, where he played as a specialist finisher.

With Dinesh it is pretty obvious and very clear. He has made a comeback based on the skills that he has shown in a particular phase of the game.

The phase of the game that Dinesh, at the back-end, has really been able to show skills over the last two or three years, he has been able to be a point of difference for whichever team that he has played,” Dravid said.

The 37-year-old Karthik was excellent in the death overs for RCB and Dravid hoped that the veteran can replicate the same performances for the Men in Blue.

I see that as no different (in Team India). That’s why he has been picked. He has been picked to bat in that kind of position, and see whether he can replicate those kind of performance for India as well,” he added.
