Indian bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar is unlikely to take part in the upcoming T20I series at home against Sri Lanka, a report revealed. He sustained a hamstring injury during the final T20I against West Indies on Sunday.

He had taken two wickets inside his first 11 deliveries before he pulled his hamstring during his runup. Venkatesh Iyer had to complete the over soon after and Chahar didn’t return to the field.

He is ruled out of the series and will complete his rehab at NCA. The team has sought no replacement as vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah is already in the side,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying.

The squad for the series was announced with Bumrah returning to the squad as the vice-captain. Rohit Sharma will continue to lead while Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been rested for the T20I series, which begins in Lucknow on Thursday.

Hardik Pandya, on the other hand, hasn’t recovered fully and his return isn’t confirmed yet. In his stead, India has found a more than handy all-rounder in Venkatesh Iyer. He scored 92 runs in the death overs in 3 innings against West Indies.

“When we get to hear that Hardik Pandya is 100 percent fit, we shall definitely consider him immediately,” chairman of selectors, Chetan Sharma had said while confirming the squads.
