IND v SL: Ishan Kishan Under Close Observation Of BCCI Medical Team After Being Discharged From Hospital

Indian opener Ishan Kishan has been discharged from the Fortis hospital in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, where he was under observation after being hit on the head by a Lahiru Kumara bouncer during the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka in Dharamsala on February 26, 2022.

He opened the innings with Rohit Sharma and made 16 runs, however, during his innings in the fourth over of India’s chase he was banged on the head by a Lahiru Kumara sharp bouncer. He was immediately attended to by the team India physio as Sri Lankan fielders gathered around him.

Ishan Kishan underwent a precautionary CT scan, as advised by the team’s medical staff at the Fortis hospital in Kangra, and was kept in observation for some time. Apart from him, Sri Lanka batter Dinesh Chandimal was also taken to the hospital after he endured a thumb injury while fielding.

Ishan Kishan Likely To Be Rested From The Third T20I: Reports

Though the BCCI has not released any statement over Ishan Kishan’s injury, it is reported that the left-handed keeper-batter will be rested from the third T20I to give him time to get well from the head injury.

“Ishan Kishan discharged from the hospital but he is under close observation of BCCI’s medical team. He is likely to be rested from the third T20I against Sri Lanka,” sources in the know of developments told ANI.

In Kishan’s absence, India might turn to Sanju Samson to keep wickets and might open with Mayank Agarwal or Venkatesh Iyer if they wish to in the third T20I which will be played in Dharamsala on February 27, 2022.

Agarwal joined the Indian team after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the series with a wrist injury. Agarwal had been quarantined in Chandigarh along with the rest of India’s Test squad to face Sri Lanka from March 4.

Coming to the second T20I, Shreyas Iyer smashed a stylish fifty before Ravindra Jadeja slammed 45 in 18 balls to help India defeat Sri Lanka in the second T20I by seven wickets on Saturday.

This win was India’s 11th consecutive victory in T20Is and one more win will get them equal to Afghanistan and Romania who hold the joint record for the most consecutive wins in T20Is with 12 wins each.
