Sanju Samson scored his career-best T20I score in the second T20I against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala on Saturday. In the process, he added an an-84-run stand which paved the path for India’s smooth chase of 184 to win. Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 74 and along with Ravindra Jadeja (45*) took India to a win inside 18 overs,

Sanju Samson was a very happy man after India’s win in Dharamsala. Speaking at the post-match interaction with the broadcasters, Samson spoke about his innings, the nature of the wicket and much more.

Wicket Was Playing Really Well: Sanju Samson

“I think the wicket was playing really well. The outfield is flying, boundaries short at this ground. When we were in good rhythm we knew this is easily chasable. 10 per over at this ground isn’t a huge task. The partnership with Shreyas Iyer helped me take extra time to get the rhythm back.

We both have played enough cricket to understand who is going well and who needs time. I wanted to go after the bowling, but the rhythm wasn’t there for the starting 10-12 balls. It has been a very long time since I played a game. I have been in the bubble and out of quarantine. So I took a bit of extra time and after getting one boundary I felt I got the rhythm back, happy about it,” said Samson on pacing his innings.

Sanju Samson got a bit emotional remembering his debut for India seven years ago. He was happy with the knock he played and that it came for a winning cause.

“We are getting used to the conditions and doing whatever is needed. Really special day for me. I made my debut seven years ago and finally contributing positively to the team’s success means a lot to me playing for the country,” Samson concluded saying.

India bagged the T20I series with the win in Dharamsala on Saturday. The third and final T20I will be played on Sunday (February 27) at the same venue.
