Cricketer turned commentator Gautam Gambhir feels that India dominates Sri Lanka in Test cricket and the latter will take a lot of time to bridge this gap. Gautam Gambhir’s words arrived after India comprehensively defeated Sri Lanka in the 1st Test in Mohali by an innings and 222 runs.

Sri Lanka was no comparison to the Indian side. India posted 574-8 (d) in the 1st innings. Later, they crushed Sri Lanka for 174 to give them a follow-on. Later, they again bowled out Sri Lanka for just 178 in the 2nd innings to win the match by an innings and 222 runs.

It Will Take A Long Time For Sri Lanka To Bridge This Gap: Gautam Gambhir

Speaking on Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir said that there was a time when there was not much difference between India and Sri Lanka. However, now India dominates Sri Lanka totally in Test cricket.

“There is so much difference between India and Sri Lanka. If you talk about Test cricket, there was a time when India and Sri Lanka used to play in the subcontinent, there was not much difference. But if you see today, India has dominated. It will take a long time for Sri Lanka to bridge this gap.” Gautam Gambhir said.

Gambhir also said that it was a dream start for Rohit Sharma in Test captaincy. Rohit Sharma led the team for the first time in India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test after taking over as Test skipper.

“When you captain your country for the first time in this format, you want to start with a win and there cannot be a more convincing win than this. You won the toss, did all things correctly.” Gautam Gambhir further said.

Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the star of India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test. The left-handed batsman slammed a 175-run knock and picked 9 wickets in the match to win the player of the match award. Now, India leads the two-match Test series 1-0.

India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test commences on March 12. The venue of the encounter is M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Sri Lanka has never won a Test match in India in the past.
