The Sri Lankan team are currently playing a T20 series in Australia. They will be making a bubble-to-bubble transfer to India after playing against Australia. India, on the other hand, have just registered a 3-0 clean sweep against West Indies at home. Rohit Sharma and Co. will now be playing against them for a three-match T20I series, starting from Wednesday. India would look to continue the winning momentum and replicate a similar performance in the T20 series as well.

Sri Lanka’s upcoming tour of India begins with a three-match T20 series. As per recent reports, the first two T20 internationals will be played at Dharamsala, while the final match will be played at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali. In this article, we take a look at India’s 15-man predicted squad for the T20 series against Sri Lanka.

  1. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has made an outstanding start as a full-time captain of the Indian Cricket Team in white-ball cricket. He has recently led India to a 3-0 win over West Indies in the ODI series. He would look to replicate a similar result in the T20 series as well, which is scheduled to start from Wednesday. Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the side for the T20 series against Sri Lanka as well.

India’s former captain, Virat Kohli is yet to find his best touch in white-ball cricket. He didn’t score a single half-century in three ODIs against West Indies. Virat Kohli would look to exhibit better performances in the T20 series against West Indies and Sri Lanka.

India’s white-ball vice-captain, KL Rahul has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 series against West Indies due to a hamstring injury. However, he is likely to be fit until the start of the T20 series against Sri Lanka. The Indian cricketer has been in pretty good touch and you expect him to open the innings along with Rohit Sharma against Sri Lanka.

Shreyas Iyer will be an integral part of India’s middle-order for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. He has been included in India’s squad for the T20Is against West Indies. It will be interesting to see how he fares with the bat. Iyer missed out in the first two ODIs against West Indies due to Covid-19. In his comeback knock in the third ODI, Iyer played an outstanding knock of 80 runs in 111 deliveries.

  1. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav will continue to be part of India’s T20 series for the series against Sri Lanka. The Mumbai batter has cashed in to whatever opportunities he has been showered with. He exhibited his class in the T20 series against New Zealand and then in the ODIs against West Indies. He finished as the highest run-scorer in the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies and was India’s third-highest run-getter in the T20 series against New Zealand.

  1. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant should continue to don the wicket-keeping gloves. A three-format format player for India, Rishabh Pant’s role will be important for the team. Pant stayed unbeaten in two out of three T20 internationals played against New Zealand. He remains the first-choice wicket-keeper for the team.

Ishan Kishan should be included as the second-wicket keeper in the squad. In the absence of KL Rahul, he is likely to open the innings against West Indies in the T20 series. He might make it to the playing XI against Sri Lanka as well. But, it all depends on how well he bats against West Indies in the upcoming T20 series.

Venkatesh Iyer made headlines after delivering promising performances for Kolkata Knight Riders in the second leg of the IPL 2021. It helped him make his India debut in the T20 series against New Zealand. He is part of India’s squad for the T20 series against West Indies. And, in the absence of Hardik Pandya, you expect him to be part of the team against Sri Lanka as well.

Ravindra Jadeja is currently recovering from his knee injury and is in the final stage of his recovery. He isn’t part of India’s upcoming T20 series against the West Indies but is expected to recover until the start of the T20 series against Sri Lanka. He should be back in the team.

Deepak Chahar has continuously raised his stocks with consistent performances in the last couple of years. He has often made headlines for his performances both with the bat and ball. Chahar would look to create a significant impact against Sri Lanka as well.

For the second all-around option, Shardul Thakur should also make the cut. Thakur’s knack for picking wickets should keep the team in good stead. Besides, he adds depth in the batting unit and, thus his presence is important, especially in the shortest format of the game.

  1. Yuzvendra Chahal

In the absence of Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal will lead the spin attack. He will share the spin-bowling duties with Ravindra Jadeja. After missing out on the World-Cup squad, Chahal made his comeback in the T20 series against New Zealand. He, however, played one match only. Chahal is part of the T20Is against the West Indies and should make it into the squad against Sri Lanka as well.

Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the ODI and has been rested for the T20 series as well against West Indies as well. He is likely to make his comeback for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. He will lead the pace attack of the Indian Cricket Team. Bumrah is currently one of the best fast bowlers in world cricket and you expect him to have a significant impact against Sri Lanka.

Mohammed Shami too was rested for the series against West Indies after dishing out impressive performances on the tour of South Africa. Shami is likely to share the fast bowling duties with Bumrah in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. It will be interesting to see how he fares with the ball.

Harshal Patel has been in the form of his life right now. He made an outstanding performance in IPL 2021. He picked a record 32 wickets and finished the tournament as the highest wicket-taker. Impressive performances helped him make his India debut in the T20 series against New Zealand. In 2 matches, he picked 4 wickets at an average of 12.75.
