Indian vice-captain for the SL Test series Jasprit Bumrah has confirmed that veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is fit and available for selection for the first Test after recovering from an injury. The off-spinner missed the West Indies and the Sri Lanka series at home as he was recovering from his injury. The first Test will be played in Mohali (March 4-8) followed by the second test in Bengaluru (March 12-16 D/N).
Addressing a press conference ahead of the first test, Jasprit Bumrah spoke on the team’s preparations and spoke specifically about Ravichandran Ashwin’s recovery from his injury. The BCCI and the management gave Ashwin enough time to recover so that he can be available for the Test series at home.
Ravichandran Ashwin Is Shaping Up Well: Jasprit Bumrah
“Ashwin is shaping up well. No complaints. He looked good and did everything in training today. Batted, bowled and did fielding. Hopefully, there won’t be any issue” said Bumrah on Ashwin.
The off-spinner made a return to India’s T20I squad in the T20 World Cup last year. He was a part of the Indian T20I squad that played a series against New Zealand at home last year.
Jasprit Bumrah also spoke about the Mohali Test match marking the 100th for Virat Kohli in his Test career. The Test match will be played inside closed doors with covid cases on the rise in and around Mohali.
“It’s a big achievement… Virat Kohli playing his 100th Test. It’s a testament to his hard work. For now, we all are just focused on winning the match” said the pacer on Kohli’s 100th Test match.
The Test series is also a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. Currently, the Lankans are at the top of the points table based on percentage points with 100 % record. India are placed fifth with percentage points of 49.07 percent. In terms of points, Sri Lanka have 24 points while India have 53.
