IND vs SL: Jasprit Bumrah Is The Kind Of Bowler Batsmen Do Not Want To Face: Sunil Gavaskar

Jasprit Bumrah has taken his wickets tally in Test cricket to 121 after his fifer in the day-night Test in Bengaluru. His spell rattled the Lankans and they were bowled out for a paltry 109 in their first innings. In the second innings, they are 28/1 needing 419 more runs to win with 9 wickets in hand.

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar was seemingly very impressed with how Bumrah bowled against the Lankans. He termed him as a successful bowler and said that the batsmen do not like to face a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah.

“So much of skill, so much of ability, so much of belief in himself and he always wants to get better than yesterday. And that is why he has been so successful. He has got better and better every match.

“Yes again, it happens in every cricketer’s career, he might have the odd barren period, but he will be the bowler that the opposition batsman will not want to face,” he added.

Gavaskar further said that Bumrah’s ability to take wickets when the batsmen are set is what sets him apart from the rest of the modern bowlers. Bumrah’s spell of 5/25 is the best figures by an Indian bowler against Sri Lanka in Test cricket.

“He has got this ability to get the batsman out when the batter is set. With the new ball, you are expected to get the batter out because that is your strength as a bowler.

“It’s a hard ball or a new ball, the ball will move in the air, and then it will seam after pitching, but when you get a batter out when he is set that tells you how good a bowler he is. And that is Jasprit Bumrah is,” he said as he lauded the Indian pacer.

Bumrah is currently topping the wicket-takers list in the ongoing WTC. He has 38 wickets so far including three fifers. This was his first fifer at home in Test cricket.
