Former India cricketer and a legend of the game, Sachin Tendulkar was in awe of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s performance with the bat and the ball on the first two days of the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali.

Jadeja helped pile on the misery on the Sri Lankan bowlers after Rishabh Pant had gotten out after a brilliant 96-run knock. Jadeja proved to be the highest scorer with a sublime knock of 175* with 17 fours and 3 sixes to his name. He added 100-run partnerships with Rishabh Pant (96), R Ashwin (61)/ and even Mohammad Shami (20*) as India declared in 574/8.

This was his second Test hundred and his highest score in Test cricket as well. He also broke the record of legendary Kapil Dev of the highest score by an Indian batting at no.7 in Tests. Kapil had made 163 against Sri Lanka in 1986, while Jadeja’s 175* surpassed it.

Then when Sri Lankans came out to bat, Jadeja removed the dangerous Dimuth Karunaratne for 28 and after R Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah had rattled the middle order with two wickets apiece, came back to finish off the remainder of the Lankan batting, bagging 5/41.

Wonderful Performance: Sachin Tendulkar Lauds Ravindra Jadeja’s Brilliant All-Round Performance

With this, Jadeja became the 6th player in Test cricket history to make a score of 150 plus and take a fifer in the same Test match. The others to achieve this feat are Vinoo Mankad (184 & 5/196) v England 1952, Denis Atkinson (219 & 5/56) v Australia 1955, Polly Umrigar (172* & 5/107) v West Indies 1962, Gary Sobers (174 & 5/41) v England 1966, and Mushtaq Mohammad (201 & 5/49) v New Zealand 1973.

This was Jadeja’s second Test ton and a tenth five-wicket haul in Test matches. His performance got praise from the entire cricketing community and even batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also took to Twitter to praise the left-arm all-rounder from Saurashtra.

“.@imjadeja is turning everything into gold! Wonderful performance. #INDvSL,” Sachin tweeted.

Sri Lanka was bundled out for just 174 runs thanks to Jadeja’s five-wicket haul and with a lead of 400 runs, India asked the visitors to follow on.
