Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan said that Virat Kohli’s frustration with his batting woes is visible on the pitch. It is not a hidden fact that Kohli hasn’t scored an international hundred for a long period, where the Indian cricket team has undergone too many changes, but the former Indian skipper is still waiting to score his hundred since he made one against Bangladesh in a Day-Night Test match in November 2019.

Kohli was dismissed twice LBW in both innings of the second Test. In the first innings, the senior Indian batter failed to read Dhananjaya de Silva’s off-breaker, which spun and the batter was undone by the extra bounce as he was trapped before the wickets.

Kohli scored 13 off 16 balls in the second innings before Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama beat the star Indian batter by pitching his delivery low and the ball hit him on the back pad in front of the stumps.

It would have been extremely frustrating for Virat Kohli: Irfan Pathan

Irfan said that Kohli is committing some mistakes which he had never made before in his storied international career. The former Indian player feels that Kohli is getting frustrated with himself and that can be visible on the pitch.

“It would have been extremely frustrating for Virat Kohli and because of that only the frustration is being seen on the ground as well. The mistakes we are seeing from Virat Kohli, we didn’t use to see them earlier,” Irfan said on Star Sports.

“He is getting frustrated with himself, he is waiting for the big knock. It has been more than two years that he has not scored a century, the consistent knocks have not come,” he added.

Virat Kohli is trying to show that he has been a very big player: Irfan Pathan

Irfan said that Kohli has completely changed his batting technique where he tends to play his shots in haste. The cricketer-turned-commentator is of the opinion something is going around the former Indian skipper’s head.

“That is why we have seen in white-ball cricket, he has changed his style of playing, he is playing the big shots right at the outset, he didn’t use to do that earlier. He used to take his time, it shows what is going on in his mind. He is trying to show that he has been a very big player,” he said.

India are leading the two-match Test series 1-0 lead after their victory in the first Test by an innings and 222 runs in Mohali.
