Wasim Jaffer, a former cricketer, has shared his thoughts on India’s batters’ disappointing performance in the current day-night Test against Sri Lanka at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Besides Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, neither of the Indian batters struggled to convert a fifty-plus score in the second Test of the series.

Wasim Jaffer believes Kohli’s 72nd Test century would not have been possible on this pitch, but he could have achieved a fifty.

The middle and lower orders carried India’s batting in the two-Test series, which was a departure from the country’s long-standing batting formula. The top four batsmen, Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, Hanuma Vihari, and Kohli, all got off to good starts but failed to convert them into half-centuries in three innings.

Wasim Jaffer believed that the top-order will really be dissatisfied with its performance. Kohli, he continued, isn’t the “great player” he used to be, whatever his bad luck. He stated, ”

“While you have a career like his, you’re entitled to get deliveries like this, but I’m hoping it all evens out eventually. We hoped, as we always did, that the 71st hundred would arrive shortly. Again, this isn’t the pitch for the 71st century, but you’d like to see him get at least 50-60 runs. But, as I previously stated, when you have such a long career, you are sure to experience a few such dismissals. Hopefully, there will be fewer in the future.”

Wasim Jaffer believes that the Indian team is far dominant to the Sri Lankans:

Wasim Jaffer, when asked about the series’ unbalanced character, claimed India is “far, far too powerful” for an inexperienced Sri Lankan team to overcome in their own home. He stated,

“The caliber of the teams – as you may know, the Indian team is far, much superior to the Sri Lankan team. This (Sri Lankan) team has a lot of youth, and they’ll pick it up quickly. It’ll be difficult to travel Indian because it’s such a difficult location. Whether it’s batting or bowling, this Indian team will never take it easy.”

In the pink-ball Test, India held Sri Lanka to a score of 28/1. On Sunday, Bumrah excelled with the bat, while Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant both hit half-centuries that set new records.
