After winning the first Test by an innings and 222 runs, team India would be eying a clean sweep of Sri Lanka in the second Test, starting on Saturday. For the unversed, the second Test is scheduled to be played with the pink ball from 12th to 16th March 2022 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

In his first match as captain in Test Cricket, Rohit Sharma led India to an innings and 222-run win against Sri Lanka. The batting unit performed as a unit. Riding on a sensational knock of 175 runs in 228 balls from Ravindra Jadeja, India managed to score 574 runs in the first innings. Rishabh Pant missed out on a well-deserved century by just 4 runs, while Ashwin made a valuable contribution of 61 runs in 82 balls.

As for Sri Lanka, Lakmal, Vishwa Fernando, and Embuldeniya all picked three wickets. Lahiru Kumara, who managed to pick one wicket in the Test, has been ruled out of the second Test due to injury. He won’t be available for the second Test.

India were equally impressive with the ball. The pacers made life difficult for the batters initially. Shami and Bumrah combined to pick three wickets. Later, Ashwin and Jadeja sprung a web around the Sri Lankan batters.

There was spin on offer and the duo made full use of that. Jadeja went on to pick a five-wicket haul, while Ashwin returned with figures of 2 for 49. As a result of that, Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 174 runs in the second innings.

Jadeja and Ashwin continued to extra help from the surface and the duo, thus, managed to pick 4 wickets each in the third innings. Sri Lanka couldn’t inspire any confidence with the bat in their second innings as well as they folded for just 178 runs, thereby losing the game by an innings and 222 runs.

Pathum Nissanka and Niroshan Dickwella were the only batsmen who struck a half-century in the Test match. Other than that, the batsmen failed to inspire any confidence with the bat. Heading into the next Test match, the likes of D Karunaratne, Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva ought to make substantial contributions with the bat.

In a big development, Axar Patel has fully recovered from his injury and is likely to make it into the playing XI for the second Test match. Jayant Yadav, who looked ineffective with the ball, should make way for him.

India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play the second Test match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore from 12th to 16th March 2022. The pitch here at Chinnaswamy offers plenty of runs for the batsmen.

The pitch would be great to score runs on the first three days of the Test. However, given that the match will be played with the pink-ball, the seamers would able to move the ball a bit more. Also, the cracks will begin to open up from the third day itself and the spinners thus are likely to come into the picture after that. Both teams are expected to bat first upon winning the toss.
