Rohit Sharma Does Not Have Much Time And He Wants Players To Perform Up To Expectations And Stay Fit – Saba Karim

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim has opined that Rohit Sharma does not have much time with two World Cups approaching in the next 18 months and he wants his players to stay fit and perform well.

India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma has done an incredible job. However, fitness has been a major concern for the team as players like KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav, and Deepak Chahar have suffered an injury and they have been ruled out of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Also, Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the first T20I against Sri Lanka after suffering an injury.

Meanwhile, Karim has said that Indian captain Rohit needs to find a solution to end India’s trophy drought in the ICC tournaments. He added that the responsibility of Rohit Sharma will be to pick the right players and back them and to make sure they remain fit and available for the World Cup.

“Rohit Sharma’s biggest targets are the T20 World Cup this year and the 50-over World Cup in 2023. He does not have much time and he wants players to perform up to expectations and stay fit. It seems like he feels it is important to address this fitness issue. Often uncomfortable questions are not asked in Indian cricket,” said Karim on the Khelneeti podcast.

“Solutions need to be found for these problems, the right players need to be picked and backed. This is Rohit Sharma’s role. His style of addressing the issue may be different, but the intention is right,” he added.

Saba Karim feels that India captain Rohit Sharma losing his cool during the series against West Indies was a sense of innocence. He added that it will be interesting to see Rohit’s reaction to India’s defeats.

“There is no malice but a sense of innocence in Rohit’s outbursts. And players accept it. But we saw some of those expressions when MI were struggling last season. All the players know that this is how Rohit is on the field and off it as well.

“But yes, there are many challenges in store for him. We are winning now, so it remains to be seen how he reacts to defeats,” Karim further added.
