“Future Of India” – Twitter Hails Shubman Gill As He Slams His 2nd ODI Hundred In IND vs SL Thiruvananthapuram ODI

The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team star opening batsman Shubman Gill played an absolutely remarkable knock in the third ODI of the three-match series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team on Sunday, January 15.
The third ODI between the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team is a dead rubber as the Men In Blue have already sealed the series after winning the first two matches comprehensively.

The third ODI is currently underway at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Notably, this is only the second ODI being held at the Greenfield International Stadium as before today, the only ODI at the venue was played in 2019 between India and West Indies.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, as usual, was elegant out in the middle and he dominated the Sri Lankan bowlers. He showcased a batting exhibition and made run-scoring look pretty easy.

Gill provided India with a terrific start in the match and even smashed 4 consecutive boundaries to pacer Lahiru Kumara in the 6th over. The Rohit Sharma-Shubman Gill duo fell just 5 runs short of a century partnership as they managed to stitch together 95 runs in 92 balls before Rohit Sharma got dismissed in the 16th over, which was bowled by Chamika Karunaratne.
Gill batted with great intent and completed his half-century off just 52 balls and then he took a single off the final delivery of the 31st over, which was bowled by Nuwanidu Fernando, to complete the century milestone. He registered his second ODI century off just 89 balls.
The Punjab-born batter scored his first ODI century against Zimbabwe in Harare in August 2022. He has become just the second Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar to smash an ODI century against Sri Lanka at the age of 23.
Overall, Shubman Gill smashed terrific 116 runs off 97 balls, including 14 fours and 2 sixes, before being cleaned up by Kasun Rajitha in the 34th over. He also had a remarkable 131 runs partnership in 110 balls with the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli.
The 23-year-old has overall played 18 innings for India in 50-over cricket and has smashed 894 runs at an amazing average of 59.60 and a brilliant strike rate of 103.71, including two tons and five fifties. Notably, no other Indian batter even in the first 20 ODI innings had scored more runs than Gill.

Shubman Gill celebrates his hundred in front of Virat Kohli. This is a classic example of two eras meeting together before going their separate ways eventually.
