The full itinerary for the forthcoming home series between the India National Cricket Team and the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team was released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

In 2023, Sri Lanka will travel to India for a limited-overs series of six games, including three ODIs and three T20Is. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has opted to spread out the games over six different locations, has determined that the entire series would be played in January 2023.

The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, lost the ODI series to Bangladesh after suffering two consecutive losses. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have a review meeting and major changes to the ODI roster are likely.

Let???s have a look at the 5 Indian players who might be dropped from the India squad for the ODIs against Sri Lanka.

In eight of his last nine ODIs, Dhawan has had significant difficulties. The left-hander also used an antiquated style of batting, which is hurting the club during Powerplay innings. It’s not always about purpose; sometimes it’s about not being able to press the issue with a small number of available strokes. In the T20 era, Shubman Gill or a Kishan are more inventive.

The main issue with Dhawan has been a precipitous drop in his strike rate, which went from 100+ till the 2019 World Cup to a pitiful 75 in 2022.

After Ishan Kishan’s double hundred and, more crucially, the newness he has infused the approach with, the team management will undoubtedly reflect on the delicate selection issues. A player with 167 ODI appearances and a current ranking of third (6793) among current India run scorers behind Rohit (9454) and Virat Kohli (12471) is now hoping fir his survival.

After Ishan Kishan’s double hundred, Rishabh Pant is one of the players whose opportunities can decrease. Pant has played well in ODIs. He could be impacted by his lack of confidence in T20Is, though. He was cut from the ODI team before the series began.

In Pant’s absence, KL Rahul maintained wickets, and stand-in keeper Ishan displayed strong batting skills. Pant may have a smaller margin for error as a result of these two considerations. India would undoubtedly support him, but Pant needs to act quickly.

Pant has struggled mightily in limited overs cricket this year, managing just one fifty in the shortest format back in February against the West Indies and just twice exceeding the 30-run threshold in his 21 innings. The 25-year-old has played nine innings in ODIs this year and has two fifty-plus scores and a hundred.

Kuldeep Sen

Due to a stiff back, India bowler Kuldeep Sen was unavailable for selection for the second One-Day International against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. Kuldeep was replaced in India’s starting lineup for their crucial match against the hosts by Umran Malik.

Kuldeep had made his debut in the series opener a few nights prior at the same location. Although pricey, the right-arm bowler did manage to take a few wickets. His two sixes against Mehidy Hasan shifted the tide in Bangladesh’s favor. To pull off a remarkable victory for Bangladesh, Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman put together an uninterrupted 51-run partnership for the final wicket.

With him still dealing with his injury, he might have to stay out of the squad for the Sri Lanka series as well.

Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami, a fast bowler, had a shoulder injury during practice prior to the ODI series against Bangladesh. At the NCA, he is now being watched upon by the BCCI Medical Team. Shami’s ailment has not yet been fully assessed. The Bengal speedster, 33, is a crucial component of India’s ODI strategy heading into the World Cup in 2018.

Shami was called up to the Indian T20 World Cup squad to take Jasprit Bumrah’s position. Shami had not participated since the T20 World Cup in 2021 when he was called up to the Men in Blue’s shortest-format team after a one-year layoff. Shami missed the home series against Australia and South Africa after receiving a COVID-19 diagnosis.

Therefore, just like Kuldeep Sen, Shami may also miss making it to the squad and will be dropped for the ODI series against Sri Lanka in January.

Shahbaz Ahmed

Shahbaz Ahmed, an all-rounder, became well-known while representing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He replaced injured Ravindra Jadeja in the recently concluded ODI series against Bangladesh.

He was able to get a game under his name as Axar Patel was also out of the first ODI. Shahbaz was dismissed by Shakib al Hasan for a duck while he could not get any breakthrough during his 9-over spell, giving away 39 runs in the process.

With veteran Ravindra Jadeja getting his treatment at the NCA and getting ready for a comeback to the senior team, Shahbaz may once again lose his place in the squad for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.
