Reetinder Singh Sodhi thinks that KL Rahul’s inclusion in the India team for the ODI series versus Sri Lanka gave him a second chance. The declaration followed Rahul’s slump with the bat throughout all formats.

The right-hander was cautioned by the former Indian batsman that he must perform well or he would be benched from the ODIs, the same as in T20Is.

KL Rahul Has Got A Lifeline: Reetinder Singh Sodhi

Reetinder Singh Sodhi remarked on India News:

“KL Rahul has got a lifeline. If he doesn’t perform, he’ll be shown the exit door.”

Considering his failings in the T20 World Cup, KL Rahul was removed from the T20I team. In six games, the right-hander could only muster 128 runs, having just single-digit runs against each Pakistan, South Africa, and England.

KL Rahul continued the streak in the just-finished 50-over series in Bangladesh with scores of 73, 14, and 8. With just 57 runs in four innings in the two-Test series against exactly the same opponents, he also struggled.

It’s important to note that all-rounder Hardik Pandya has taken up KL Rahul’s position as Team India’s vice-captain for ODIs.

Shikhar Dhawan Needs To Score Runs In Domestic Cricket: Reetinder Singh Sodhi

Shikhar Dhawan, who served as India’s interim ODI captain in New Zealand, was also mentioned by Reetinder Singh Sodhi as having been benched for the Sri Lanka series. He thinks that for the lefthander to make a return before the 2023 World Cup, he must excel in domestic cricket.

He said:

“Shikhar Dhawan didn’t find a place. He needs to score runs in domestic cricket.”

Only 18 runs were scored by Dhawan versus Bangladesh in three ODIs. In the three-match series against New Zealand and South Africa, he performed poorly with the bat as well, scoring 103 and 25 runs, respectively. In the previous 11 innings, he only managed one half-century, which he achieved against New Zealand in the opening game.

The left-hander anticipates another successful IPL year with the Punjab Kings to make his return to the Indian side.
