Former India selector Saba Karim thinks Rishabh Pant’s exclusion from the T20I and ODI teams against Sri Lanka is not the end of the road for the wicketkeeper-batsman.

He believes that a strong IPL performance will enable the southpaw to make a comeback in time for the 2023 ICC World Cup.

Speaking on India News, Saba Karim said: “If Rishabh Pant performs in the IPL, he can make a comeback.”

Pant averaged 21.41 runs per T20 inning in 2022, totalling 364 runs. He had run totals of 27,3, 6, 6, and 11 in his final five innings. He scored 336 runs in ODIs in 10 innings, averaging 37.33.

Similar views were expressed by Saba Karim for Virat Kohli, who was left off the T20I squad despite finishing first in the T20 World Cup 2022 in terms of runs scored.

“The same for Virat Kohli. He provides stability to the team.”

Rohit Sharma was leading in T20 World Cup: Saba Karim

Saba Karim said that the BCCI is trying to play only young players in its T20 structure, which is why skipper Rohit Sharma was removed from the T20 team. The change occurs a few weeks after India was eliminated from the T20 World Cup in the semifinals.

“The big news is that they have dropped Rohit Sharma as captain and player from the T20 team. Rohit Sharma was leading in T20 World Cup, not KL Rahul.”

In six games throughout the tournament, Sharma scored 116 runs, including a lone half-century against the Netherlands.

KL Rahul has since been dismissed from T20 Internationals after performing poorly at the T20 World Cup 2022. In six games, he scored 128 runs, with single-digit totals against Pakistan, South Africa, and England. His two half-centuries came against Bangladesh and the Netherlands, two lower-ranked teams.
