Because of his present performance, Suryakumar Yadav shouldn’t be the subject of fascination, according to Aakash Chopra, and he shouldn’t be considered for India’s Test team.

For the last year or so, Suryakumar has emerged as the best hitter in the game’s shortest format. He scored an undefeated 112 against Sri Lanka in the final T20I. Based on his white-ball performances, several pundits think the Mumbai batsman could be featured in India’s Test team.

Aakash Chopra Shares His Opinion On Suryakumar Yadav Playing All Formats

Chopra was questioned in a video posted on his YouTube channel about his opinion on whether Suryakumar Yadav should participate in Test matches. He gave an unfavourable response, saying:

“I feel let’s not get obsessed. It is our country’s tendency to get slightly obsessed, that if we get a player, we say he should be played in all three formats. At this point in time, I feel we are wanting to do that with Shubman Gill.”

The former Indian opener asserts that Suryakumar Yadav is presently experiencing the same preoccupation as Rishabh Pant did in the past:

“We were extremely eager to do that with Rishabh Pant earlier, that he is doing well, let’s play him in all formats. The same talk is happening with Suryakumar now because there is no doubt about the level at which he is batting.”

In T20I cricket, Suryakumar has been in outstanding form. Mr. 360 of India has scored 1578 runs in 45 games at a fantastic average of 46.41 and a fantastic strike rate of 180.34.

Aakash Chopra Not Huge Fan Of Suryakumar Yadav In Test Cricket

Chopra explains that as Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t even recently participated in many first-class matches, he should only be selected for limited-overs cricket:

“I would still say that this is an ODI World Cup year, the T20 World Cup will also happen after two years, neither has he played Test cricket nor has he played much first-class cricket for a long time, although he did hit a century recently, but I am not a huge fan.”

The reputable pundit also noted that India’s Test team does not have a lot of open slots, saying:

“I would say keep it slightly separate. Why do you want to force it? It is not required. If a lot of spots are vacant and you want to play him, it’s very good. But to bat at No. 5 or No. 6 – I personally feel that you can let him remain a white-ball player.”

Chopra ended by stating that if Suryakumar plays in all three forms, workload management will also be a problem. He noted that if he is hurt while doing so, things could not proceed as planned.
