IND vs SL: "Ravichandran Ashwin Should Be One Of The Candidates For India's Test Captaincy" - Danish Kaneria

Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was instrumental in India’s three-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second test of the two-match series. India won the series 2-0, securing the second spot in the World Test Championship 2021-2023 standings. Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria believes that veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin should be considered as India’s Test captain.

India collapsed to 74/7 at one stage in their second innings during a run chase of 145 runs. Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer put on a 71-run partnership for the eighth wicket to help the team win. The 36-year-old scored a valuable unbeaten 42 and picked up six wickets in the match. Ashwin had earlier scored a half-century in the first test match, which India won by 188 runs in Chattogram.

He Still Has A Lot Of Cricket Left In Him – Danish Kaneria

Kaneria stated during a live session on his YouTube channel that Ashwin is likely to be around for a few more years and that he deserves to be given a leadership role in red-ball cricket. He believes that the all-rounder can achieve great success as India’s Test captain.

“Ravichandran Ashwin should be one of the candidates for India’s Test captaincy. He still has a lot of cricket left in him. He is very smart and intelligent with his batting and bowling. It seems as if he is constantly thinking when he is on the ground,” Danish Kaneria said.

Ravichandran Ashwin Was Cool And Calm – Danish Kaneria

Kaneria compared Ashwin to legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble, saying the team would look weaker without the off-spinner. He stated that India were under a lot of pressure when Ashwin walked out to bat in the run chase. He praised the veteran spinner for leading his team to victory with his valiant batting effort.

“India were under a lot of pressure. Ravichandran Ashwin was cool and calm in that situation, playing a great knock to steady the ship for his team. He has saved India on several occasions with his batting contributions.”

“The Indian team looked weak when they played without Anil Kumble in the past, and the same goes for Ashwin. His 42-run knock was equal to scoring a century.”
