Reetinder Singh Sodhi, a former cricketer for India, criticized KL Rahul for failing to open Team India’s T20 World Cup innings.

He thinks that the vice-captain underperformed in crucial games because he was contending for his position.

Rahul batted an average of 21.33 and scored 128 runs in six innings. Against Pakistan, the Netherlands, South Africa, and England, the right-hander only scored one or two runs. His half-centuries came against weaker opposition in Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Sodhi remarked on India News, “We are talking about intent. If you look at the World Cup, KL Rahul was playing for his form and spot; how will he score? There was uncertainty about his position, he scores fifty, and we continue to chase him.”

KL Rahul scored 57 runs in two Tests in Bangladesh, calling his selection for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka into question.

“Our approach is conservative”: Saba Karim about KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma

Saba Karim, a former India selector, has also criticized Team India for their conservative strategy in T20Is. Instead of competing for a position on the team, he wants the hitters to command early-game attention. To routinely get scores of 190-200, he believes the squad must play brave cricket.

In the same interview, Karim stated: “I want India to dominate world cricket. Our approach is conservative. We always think about safe cricket. Even if you are chasing 130, reach them in 12 or 13 overs.”

It’s important to note that Rohit Sharma, the team’s regular captain, had a poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2022. In six games, he has scored 116 runs at an average of 19.33, with one fifty against the Netherlands.
