IND vs SL: Sanju Samson Dropped From ODI Squad On Rohit Sharma’s Call, Selectors Wanted To Go Ahead With Sanju Over KL Rahul: Sources. Among the noteworthy omissions from India’s ODI team for the forthcoming three-match home series against Sri Lanka was wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.
On Tuesday, December 27, the national selectors released the teams for the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka. Samson was selected for the squad for the T20Is but was not selected for the 50-over games.
Samson is notable since he was a member of India’s team for their November white-ball series in New Zealand.
He was, although, snubbed for each of the three T20I games.

After being selected for the first ODI of the series, he finally had a game, but even after a respectable 36-run effort, he was benched for the following two matches. Samson was also not selected for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh that the Men in Blue played in December.
Sanju Samson Dropped From ODI Squad On Rohit Sharma’s Demand
According to the sources close to Cricketaddictor, it is being said that Rohit Sharma did not want Sanju Samson in the ODI squad and it was his call that ended up pushing the Kerala wicket-keeper batter out of the national team. Indian ODI skipper wanted KL Rahul to remain in the squad even though the selection committee persisted with the name of Samson.
Sanju Samson was also passed over for the 2022 T20 World Cup after receiving the skipper Rohit Sharma’s support earlier this year. Sanju has a great deal of potential and he regards him as a possible match-winning candidate, Rohit said. However, these words failed to turn into action and the talented batter has been struggling to cement his place in the XI even after consistent performances.
Samson has played in 11 ODIs, hitting 330 runs with a strike rate of 104.76 and an average of 66. Ten of his eleven outings have come this year since he made his 50-over debut versus Sri Lanka the previous year.
Sanju Samson Finds No Place In ODI Squad
Sanju Samson was cut from the ODI team and was only able to join the T20I squad. For the 50-over games, the two wicketkeeper-batters are Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul.

The first game of the ODI series is scheduled on January 10 in Guwahati. The last two games will be played on January 12 and 15, respectively, in Thiruvananthapuram and Kolkata.
