"The Mighty Finisher"- Glenn Maxwell is one of the best Australian players in the sub-continent. Glenn Maxwell is a right-handed batsman who usually bats in the lower-middle order. He is among the most destructive batters when it comes to T20Is.

He is one of the favorite names in India due to his various seasons.

To begin with, he was the man behind Punjab Kings' best-ever show in IPL 2014 when they reached the IPL final for the only time. Also, Maxwell has shattered IPL's record for highest-ever buy on multiple occasions.

In the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India, he played the "knock of the decade” when he shattered an unbeaten double ton against Afghanistan to drive Australia to the semi-finals. Later, Australia also won the title.

Early Life and Career

Glenn Maxwell was born on October 4, 1998, in Kew City in Melbourne State of Australia to Joy and James Maxwell. He had a sister named Lisa and a brother named Daniel. He married Indian-origin Vini Raman in 2022. The couple had a child in September 2023, whom they named Logan Maverick.

Interestingly, Maxwell started as a pacer in the initial stages of his career. However later, he moved to off-spin. He is still considered an outstanding off-spinner and can also contribute with the ball.

In 2011, he scored the fastest half-century for Victoria to set the record for the fastest one-day cup in ODI history. The feat helped him to cement his place in the domestic circuit.

International Career

After just one year, Glenn Maxwell got his biggest break when he made his international debut against India in March 2013 in a Test series. He picked a four-wicket haul in a losing cause on his international debut.

In 2012, he made his T20I debut against Pakistan and also made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils in the same year. Initially, he could not gain much glamour with the bat in IPL.

Maxwell could not excel in the Test format but has emerged as a star all-rounder in limited-overs format. He has become one of the few Australian players to play over 100 ODIs and T20Is for Australia.

IPL and BBL Career

Glenn Maxwell was part of Delhi Capitals in the first season and Mumbai Indians in the second season. However, he gained the limelight after winning the most sixes awards in IPL 2014, hitting 36 sixes. He also captured the Emerging Player of the Season award.

His firing batting helped the Punjab Kings to produce their best-ever show in IPL history. Punjab Kings finished in the top spot in the points table. However, they failed to win the title by a close margin and ended as runners-up.

The Punjab franchise retained the Aussie all-rounder till the 2017 season. DC recaptured him in the 2018 season, however, they released him the very next year.

In IPL 2020, Punjab Kings grabbed him once again, however, Maxwell failed to shine with the bat. In IPL 2021, Royal Challengers Bengaluru bought him for a whopping price of 14.25 crore and has retained him over the years. He has been part of Melbourne Stars (earlier Melbourne Renegades) since his debut season in the Big Bash League.
