"A powerful opening batter"- Prithvi Shaw is one of the talented openers in Indian cricket. Prithvi Shaw made a fabulous debut for India smacking a century. However, despite his outstanding debut, Shaw has failed to cement his spot in the national team till now.
However, Prithvi Shaw is quite young and has a lot of years to grab a permanent spot in the national side. He is a right-handed batsman who only plays as an opener. He has been a regular member of Delhi Capitals in IPL for the last few years.
Early Life and Career
Prithvi Shaw was born on November 9, 1999, in Thane City of Maharashtra. His family belongs to Gaya City in Bihar but his father Pankaj Shaw migrated to Mumbai before his birth.
Shaw started his cricket coaching in childhood under his coach Santosh Pingulkar. His father supported his cricket aspiration and motivated him to become a cricketer. Shaw was a powerful batter of his school cricket team.
The opening batter got a big break in 2016 when he was picked by the Mumbai team in the domestic circuit. Later, he became a regular member of the side and still represents Mumbai in domestic cricket. In 2018, he was part of the Indian team that won the Under-19 ODI World Cup.
International Career
After a consistent show in domestic cricket and Indian Premier League, Prithvi Shaw made his international debut in 2018 during a Test match against West Indies. He slammed a century in his debut game and earned a lot of limelight.
In 2020, he also made his ODI debut. One year later, he played his first T20I. However, despite a fabulous debut, Shaw failed to cement his place in the national team due to inconsistent form.
The right-handed batter has only featured in less than 10 games in every format. Currently, he is not part of the national setup.
IPL Career
Unlike international cricket, Prithvi Shaw has a brilliant career in IPL. He was first picked by the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2018 season. Since then, he has been part of the same team as the franchise has retained him over the years.
Shaw was incredible in his first two seasons- hitting 245 runs in 2018 and 353 runs in 2019. In the 2021 season, he piled up 479 runs in 15 games to showcase a brilliant form. However, he has struggled with consistent shows in IPL seasons.
