Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott believes that veteran pacer James Anderson can bowl out Australia in an hour and a half if he gets the opportunity to bowl in the nighttime in the pink-ball Test during the upcoming Ashes 2021-22.

The marquee Ashes 2021-22 series is all set to begin from December 8 at the Gabba, Brisbane and the second Test of the series will be played at Adelaide Oval from December 16 and it will be a pink-ball Test match. Also, Australia have never lost a pink-ball Test at home so it will be a tough challenge for England.

Previewing the Ashes, Boycott said that Anderson will be unplayable if he bowls in the night in the day/night Test against Australia. He said:

“Whoever get the pink ball… it moves around a bit more, and certainly does when nighttime comes – its a day/night Test. If you can manoeuvre the game so that Anderson can bowl at night, he’ll bowl them out in an hour and a half. He’ll be unplayable.”

Notably, James Anderson has been rested for the Ashes opener as the ECB are planning to manage the workload of a senior pacer and the board wants to get him ready for the pink-ball Test in Adelaide.

Former England captain lauded all-rounder Stokes who is making a comeback in cricket after a mental health break. Boycott said:

“Ben Stokes is the crucial factor. Not because he is a great player – he is. As a batsman, who can bowl a bit and catch, his enthusiasm is infectious. He adds balance to the team.”

Former England skippers also had some tips for the English bowlers and batsmen to compete against Australia. He said:

“(For bowlers) Create pressure. Australians like to score. Because they play on good pitches, they are used to scoring runs and not being tied down. You’ve got to tie them down. (For batters) You must concentrate. You’ve got to have tunnel vision. Focus on the bowling only. Patience, concentration and, above all, stay in. You can’t make runs in the pavilion.”
