Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga had to give up on a £100,000 contract with the Manchester Originals in The Hundred after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) denied him the No-Objection Certificate (NOC).

As per a report in the ESPNcricinfo, SLC chief executive, Ashley de Silva, revealed the news, citing the reason for the same is the need to be physically and mentally prepared for the upcoming Asia Cup.

The Asia Cup will be part of the preparation for the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia. As a result, the board is holding back NOCs to help them be fresh for the 6-nation tournament.

He can still be associated with Originals if they can negotiate a contract with the Lankan. Hasaranga missed out on the first edition of The Hundred as well due to a schedule clash with Lanka Premier League (LPL).

South African batter, Tristan Stubbs, has been signed as a replacement. He recently scored a stunning 28-ball 72 against England albeit in a losing cause. However, he bagged a contract on the back of the performance.
