Deepak Chahar showed his all-rounder skills recently against Sri Lanka but despite that, he missed out from the 15 members Indian squad for the T20 Worldcup 2021. A lot of questions have been raised over his exclusion with him being named in the reserves and India has gone in with just three seamers and Hardik Pandya as the fourth seamer.

Despite the conditions and the long boundaries favouring spinners, bowling all-rounders are always a big plus in T20 format and India should have picked Chahar ahead of someone like Axar Patel who provides the same effect as that of Ravindra Jadeja. Deepak Chahar can still make it the squad if there is an injury to any fast bowlers and here are 3 reasons why Deepak Chahar deserved a place in India’s squad for T20 Worldcup.

3 Reasons Why Deepak Chahar Deserved A Place In India’s Squad For T20 World Cup:

Deepak Chahar’s Match Winning Innings In Sri Lanka

Deepak Chahar managed to win a match for India single-handedly in Sri Lanka in the second ODI when all the odds were against India. Chahar who hasn’t been known for his batting skills managed to form an excellent partnership of 84 runs alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the eighth wicket and took India over the line.

Chahar’s innings brought up a lot of options for India as he remained unbeaten on 69 off 82 balls and played some marvellous strokes. It won India the series as well in Sri Lanka and it brought about a new hero in Deepak Chahar with the bat this time. That innings will be spoken for a long time as the lower order contributions will be beneficial to any crucial stages and India should have picked him for his all-round skills.

Deepak Chahar’s IPL 2021 Performances

Deepak Chahar has been the best new-ball bowler in the Powerplay in IPL since his debut for the Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and he has certainly taken his game to the next level. In the 2021 IPL this year, he picked up 8w tickets in 7 games for the Chennai Super Kings which included two four-wicket hauls and he showed that he can pick up wickets in bundles when he starts finding his rhythm.

Deepak also picked up 12 wickets in the 14 games he played in IPL 2020 at the UAE and the conditions favoured fast and quick bowlers rather than swing bowlers. He has certainly done better than Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the last three years of IPL but the former’s experience has prevailed in the end which is harsh on Deepak.

Deepak Chahar’s Impressive T20I Career

Deepak Chahar has been a regular feature for India in T20 internationals for the last two to three years and his numbers have been really good too. He has the best figures in T20 internationals for India with his 6 wickets for 7 runs and has always been among the mix in the limited-overs format.

Chahar has taken 20 wickets in the 14 games he has played for India in the T20I format at an average of 19.3 and a decent economy rate of 7.58. He should have been in the T20 Worldcup squad for his ability to swing the ball at good speeds and he has been improving on his death overs bowling spells as well. He should have made the cut for the Indian squad in T20 Worldcup.
