Dhoni holds the most number of T20 international runs as a captain with 1112 runs for India. Dhoni has captained India in six T20 World Cups so far in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 and has been taken India to two finals. He has been playing the finisher role to perfection for India in T20I internationals so far.

Dhoni played 72 T20I as captain of India and he was unlucky to not score a half-century despite averaging 37. The closest to his record has been Faf Du Plessis who has scored 1003 runs as T20I captain in 31 matches.

Dhoni holds the record for the most number of sixes as an international captain. In 324 matches as a captain in all the formats, Dhoni has hit 204 sixes and is the only captain to have hit more than 200 sixes. Dhoni has been a natural six-hitter and is one of the powerful strikers of the cricket ball too.

Ricky Ponting is second on the list with 171 sixes in 324 matches while Brendon McCullum is the next best with 170 sixes in 121 games.

Only Wicketkeeper Captain To Lead In More Than 100 Matches:

Dhoni is the only wicketkeeper captain to lead in more than 100 international matches. Dhoni-led India in 331 matches overall which is a record number considering that the next best is Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh who has led his nation in 76 matches across formats.

Dhoni has a win percentage of 53.78 overall in international cricket with 178 wins and 120 losses in all the formats which are some of his staggering numbers as a captain.

MS Dhoni holds the record for the most number of international matches as a captain and he has captained India in 331 matches across formats. Dhoni has captained India in 199 One Day internationals, 72 T20 internationals and 60 tests and he is also the only captain to lead a country in 50 or more matches in all formats.

Australia’s Ricky Ponting is second on the list with 324 matches as an international captain and New Zealand’s Stephen Fleming holds the next best.

Only Captain To Win All Three Major ICC Tournaments:

Dhoni is the only international captain to win all three major ICC tournaments including ICC T20 World Cup 2007, ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. No other captain has ever been able to achieve the feat so far and is very special to the whole of Indian cricket as he played an important innings to take the most important 50 over Worldcup home.

MS Dhoni has also won four major tournament finals in 6 matches which equals the record held by Imran Khan and Ricky Ponting who have won all the finals they have captained in major tournaments.
