India in recent times has had a great demand for all-rounders who can do the job in both bowling and the batting departments in Test cricket and it has become a tradition. These players have always been regarded as utility players and they add a lot of value to the side.

They also add the balance to the side in terms of team selection and India will be fortunate to have found out bowlers who can bat a little bit at the moment. Only a few Indian players in the past have been very successful all-rounders and here are 5 Indian all-rounders who have picked 200 wickets and scored 2000 runs in Test cricket.

Kapil Dev is regarded to be one of the greatest all-rounders the game has ever seen and he had a phenomenal career in Tests for India. The world cup winning captain was very useful in the middle order scoring 5248 runs in 131 Tests at an average of 31.1. He scored 8 centuries and 27 half-centuries in his test career as a batsman.

However, his primary role was bowling and he had some great numbers in that too. He is India’s highest taker as a fast bowler in Tests with 434 wickets at an average of 29.6. He had 23 five-wicket hauls in his Test career and was the first Indian all-rounder to pick 200 Test wickets and score 2000 runs in Test cricket.

R Ashwin started his cricket career as an opening batsman for Tamil Nadu and he always had the natural technique to bat apart from his premier spin bowling abilities. The off-spinner has already scored 2685 runs in 79 Tests at an average of 27.7 with 5 centuries and 11 half-centuries.

The 34-year-old has also picked up 413 wickets at an average of 24.6 and he has 30 five-wicket hauls in his Test career already. He has batted at number seven for India and he is a good enough batsman at the position.

Anil Kumble is the greatest Indian bowler ever in both the Test and ODI format and he had an outstanding career in Tests especially. The leg spinner is the highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 619 wickets already at an average of 29.6 in 132 Tests and he had 35 five-wicket hauls in his Test career.

He also was a decent batsman down the order with 2506 runs in 132 Tests at an average of 17.8 with one century and five half-centuries in the longer formats. He was among the few bowlers in world cricket to have picked up 10 wicket haul in a single innings in Tests.

Harbhajan Singh has the second most number of wickets in Test for an off-spinner after Muttiah Muralidharan and he still hasn’t retired from international cricket. Harbhajan’s primary role was spin bowling and he picked up 417 wickets in 103 Tests at an average of 32.5 with 25 five-wicket hauls.

Harbhajan was a useful batter down the order at number eight and he has scored 2224 runs in Tests at an average of 18.2 with two centuries and 9 half-centuries. He was no mug with the bat and could hit the lusty blows down the order.

Ravindra Jadeja is the latest addition to the Indian all-rounders’ list who has taken 200 wickets and 2000 runs in Tests. The left-arm spinner went past 2000 runs in Tests in the ongoing series against England and he looks the best among the lot. He scored a half-century in the ongoing first tests against England.

Jadeja has scored 2041 runs so far in tests at an average of 35.4 with one century and 15 half-centuries already. He has also taken 221 wickets in 51 Tests at an average of 24.4. He is expected to become the best all-rounder India has ever had in Tests in the coming years.
