It was a usual performance from the Indian team in a decider against Sri Lanka in the 3rd T20 international and the youngsters might have just lost their hopes of making it to the T20 Worldcup squad. Despite all that has been happening around Covid-19 and the regulars not being available, it was a great chance for the youngsters to make a strong case for themselves.

They might have to wait a long time to get another opportunity and they will certainly be under the radar. The positives from the series were Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy and only Suryakumar Yadav among the batsmen had consistent scores. Here are 5 Indian players whose spot for T20 Worldcup 2021 looks doubtful after the Sri Lanka series.

5 Indian Players Whose Spot For T20 World Cup 2021 Looks Doubtful After Sri Lanka Series:

Sanju Samson:

Sanju Samson did not have the best of times in the T20 series against Sri Lanka and especially, he struggled to face the leggie Wanindu Hasaranga. He got off to a good start in the first T20 scoring a brisk 27 off 20 but was completely undone in the next two games.

In the second T20I, he could manage just 7 runs off 13 balls and he perished at a stage when India needed him the most. In the third T20I, he was again dismissed by Hasaranga for a duck and the chances for him to make it to the T20 Worldcup squad have become bleak at the moment.

Manish Pandey:

Manish Pandey struggled to make the big scores in the ODI series against Sri Lanka despite getting three chances in the middle and was eventually dropped for the first T20I. Pandey has been in and out of the Indian T20I side for a long time now and to make it worse, he wasn’t available for the last two T20Is.

Pandey still averages 44.3 in T20Is but with Suryakumar Yadav doing so well, it is almost certain that Manish Pandey might not make the T20 Worldcup squad until there is an injury or something.

Chetan Sakariya:

Chetan Sakariya was an experiment with his left arm option and his back of the hand slower ones. The 23-year-old made his ODI debut in the final game and after going for some runs in the powerplay, he came back well and picked up two wickets with his variations.

Sakariya got his chance again in the second T20I and he did not do badly either. He had to defend 8 off the final over and Sri Lanka won the game with two balls left. The left-arm seamer might fall back in the queue with Deepak Chahar doing really well with the bat and the ball.

Kuldeep Yadav:

Kuldeep Yadav might be very unlucky to miss out on a spot in the T20 World cup as the chinaman did well in the One day series alongside Yuzvendra Chahal, but was erratic in the T20I series. He came into the XI for the second game and did pick u 2 wickets but gave away 30 runs in his 4 overs spell.

In the final T20I, he could bowl just the 2 overs and he went for 16 runs in the spell. With all the spinners around him making a strong case, it will be tough for him to make it to the T20 World cup squad.

Devdutt Padikkal:

Devdutt Padikkal had two good opportunities to make a big score, but he couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities and had to perish for the scores of 9 and 29 in the two innings he played. He is a much better player than that and he is just 20 years old.

But this might be the end of the road for him with the T20 World cup squad selection as he could have got ahead of Shikhar Dhawan in the race. But with a lot of openers on the Indian side, he will have to wait for his opportunity again.
