New Zealand emerged as the eventual champions of ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 after handing India an 8-wicket defeat in the final match. New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson stole all the limelight in the final match by scalping 7 wickets for 61 runs. The Kiwi pacer was acknowledged as the player of the match for his outstanding bowling attack. His teammates Tim Southee and Trent Boult also did a brilliant job by picking 5 wickets each.

On the Indian side, Mohammad Shami was the highest wicket-taker with 4 wickets in the 1st innings, while the other bowlers struggled to attack the opposition batsmen. Marnus Labuschagne is the first player who deserves to be the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the ICC World Test Championship. The Australian batsman finished as the highest run-scorer of the tournament, smashing 1675 runs in 23 innings. The right-handed batsman had the highest batting average of 72.82 in the tournament.

The 27-year-old also smacked most 5 centuries in the tournament, out of which one knock was a double century of 215. Labuschagne also hit 9 half-centuries.

If we take into consideration the performances of all-rounders during ICC World Test Championship, English cricketer Ben Stokes stands far ahead of everyone. The left-handed batsman ended as the 4th highest run-getter in the tournament and 2nd highest for England. The 30-year-old player scored 1334 runs in 32 innings at an average of 46. He also smashed 4 centuries and 6 half-centuries in the tournament, one of which was a 150 plus knock.

With the ball, the right-arm pacer scalped 34 wickets in 17 innings at an average of 26.26. His best bowling figures in an innings was 4/49 while in a match was 6/88. For his brilliant all-round show for England in the tournament, Ben Stokes definitely deserves to be MVP of the tournament.

Pat Cummins is another player who is a worthy contender of MVP in the ICC World Test Championship. The Aussie pacer picked 70 wickets in 28 innings and finished as 2nd highest wicket-taker. Even during Australia’s historic 2-1 defeat against India in the home Test series, Cummins managed to win the player of the tournament with his 21 wickets in 4 games.

Cummins bowled at an average of 21.02 during the ICC WTC tournament. The right-arm pacer picked a 5-wicket haul once and held the best bowling figures of 7/69 in a match. With his brilliant bowling show amid the tournament, he also elevated to the top spot in ICC’s Test rankings for bowlers.

Ravichandran is another player who deserves to be the MVP of the ICC World Test Championship. The Indian spinner could not help India to win the WTC title but he did manage to emerge as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. The right-arm spinner picked 71 wickets in 26 innings during the tournament at an average of 20.33.

Ashwin picked five-wicket hauls 4 times during the tournament. His best bowling stat in an innings read 7/145 while in a match was 9/207. The 34-year-old spinner also smashed a crucial century in the Test series against England.
