IPL 2022: 5 Young Players From Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Who Can Bag An IPL Contract

Tamil Nadu emerged champions of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 on Monday after piping rivals Karnataka in a thriller final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Tamil Nadu were in need of 30 runs in the final two overs, it was a brilliant power-hitting show by Shahrukh Khan to help them pull off a spectacular chase in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final.

Shahrukh smashed a six off the final ball when the team required five to win, against Vidyadhar Patil’s bowling. Tamil Nadu were successful in defending their title against Karnataka, who defeated them in the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali final.

There were some spectacular performances by a team like Vidarbha, which punched above their weights to reach the semi-final and lost to Karnataka in a very close contest.

SMAT 2021-22 also had some great individual performances like Punjab wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh smashing 119 off 61 balls against Goa.

Hyderabad medium-pacer Chama V Milind posted a fantastic bowling spell of five wickets for eight runs against Uttar Pradesh was the best performance of the tournament.

With IPL 2022 auction will be a grand auction where the majority of the players will be going under the hammer, IPL franchises will definitely have their keen eyes on the young blood of India. 

Let us take a look at five players from the latest season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 that can bag a big deal in the IPL 2022 auctions.

5) Darshan Nalkande 

The 23-year-old bowler, who hails from Wardha district in Maharashtra, claimed 13 wickets for Vidarbha in this season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He bagged four wickets from four consecutive balls against Karnataka in the semi-final match in the final over of the first innings.

In the first match, Nalkande produced match-winning figures of 5/9 against Arunachal Pradesh, it is also the second-best bowling spell after Chama V Milind in the entire tournament.

4) Ashwin Hebbar

The Andhra Pradesh opener was phenomenal for his side as he amassed 279 runs from five innings at an average of 93.

The 26-year-old stormed a massive century of 103 runs from 53 balls at a staggering strike rate of 194.34. 

With 279 runs, he was the fourth-highest run-scorer in the SMAT 2021-22. Andhra Pradesh won two and lost three matches in Elite Group C. 

3) Kishan Lyndogh

Lyndogh scored 248 runs in five innings at an average of 62 and his best score was 85 against Tripura.

The Meghalaya opener had a great strike rate of 137 throughout the tournament smashed three fifties. However, his team, could not qualify for the group stage despite winning four games from the Plate group.

2) Tanmay Agarwal

The Hyderabad batter scored 334 runs from seven matches at an average of 55.67. He missed his century by three runs against Uttarakhand.

He was the highest run-scorer of the tournament and slammed four half-centuries for Hyderabad.

1. Akshay Karnewar

The 29-year-old left-arm unorthodox spinner was one of the players, who shone with his impressive spells.

One of his breathtaking spells was against Manipur, where he did not concede a single run and claimed a couple of wickets. 

He also claimed a hat-trick against Sikkim in the Syed Mushtaq Ali, the very next day he bowled all his four maiden overs. He ended up taking 13 wickets in the tournament.
