Rating Top 10 Current All-Rounders In International Cricket

The batsmen and bowlers are important to the team and are often the ones who play the match-winning role. However, it is the quality – in some cases even the presence – of an all-rounder which creates the difference between the two sides.

An all-rounder plays the role of both, the batsman and the bowler, and hence there is a dearth of high-quality cricketers who can bring in both aspects. This category of players comes with problems of their own – the spin-bowling all-rounders are rendered not useful or less effective in non-Asian conditions, while the pace-bowing ones are injury prone, an issue which Team India has struggled with for a long time.

Here’s the Rating of Top 10 Current All-Rounders In International Cricket

10. Colin de Grandhomme-6.5

Colin de Grandhomme is a disciplined cricketer always punching above his weight. In his limitations, Grandhomme has made vital contributions to the New Zealand side over the years – his spell of 10-2-25-1 epitomizes his tight bowling. On the batting front, the right-hander is capable of hitting some lusty blows, but also playing the subdue role; he has registered 2394 runs so far in his career.

9. Kieron Pollard-7

Kieron Pollard is one of the most fearsome batters going around. Promoted to the captaincy of the West Indies side as well, Pollard has imprinted his mark all around the world. While the right-hander has stayed away from Test cricket, he still has managed to score 3841 runs and picked 91 wickets with his handy medium pace.

8. Hardik Pandya-7.5

In Indian cricket, the value of Hardik Pandya is immense: a hard-hitting lower-order batsman who is an effective pacer. Arguably, India’s best all-rounder since Kapil Dev, Pandya is a crucial cog in the national side, albeit without being allowed to bowl recently due to injuries.

Overall in his 6-year international career so far, the right-hander has scored 2273 and prised out 113 wickets. When fit to bowl, Hardik will be the balancing player in the eleven on overseas Test tours.

7. Moeen Ali-8

Moeen Ali often flies under the radar in the presence of Stokes and other stalwarts in the England team. However, Ali is one of the cleanest hitters of the cricket ball, be it against the pacers or spinners, and increased his value with his more than handy off-spin.

His record of 5072 runs and 292 wickets is clearly brilliant but remains understated on his mention in selections.

6. Mohammad Nabi-8

Mohammad Nabi is the torchbearer of Afghanistan cricket in the decade gone by, an era where the side made a tremendous rise in world cricket making it to the world cups, defeating the associate nations, and at times even upsetting teams like Bangladesh and West Indies. Nabi has been at the forefront of several such victories.

Nabi, the current no.1 T20I all-rounder, has scored 4246 runs in addition to his 212 wickets taken with his off-spin.

5. Ravichandran Ashwin-8.5

Ravichandran Ashwin has been India’s premier off-spinner for a decade now, albeit losing his place in the white-ball side, for which the team is struggling for a proper off-spinner who can bat.

Part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad and the 2013 Champions Trophy-winning eleven, Ashwin has made significant gains on batting terms as well, with an obvious constant improvement in his bowling. The right-hander has aggregated 3454 runs in his career, including 5 centuries, alongside his 611 wickets; on the bowling front, Ashwin has made marked development in overseas conditions and has become a legend in Indian cricket.

4. Jason Holder-8.5

The former West Indies captain Jason Holder has carried the team on his back for a long time. After the retirement of its legends, several star-name players opted to move away from the national side due to their differences with the board. However, Holder, at a young age, took it upon himself to drag the team out of miseries.

While it remains on that path, Holder himself made huge strides on the field going to the top of the ICC Test all-rounders rankings. The lanky cricketer is one of the finest seam-bowling all-rounders in the world, having amassed 4253 runs and scalped 278 wickets.

3. Shakib Al Hasan-9

While his name isn’t taken in the same breath as Stokes and Jadeja, perhaps because of Bangladesh not being a side that wins often against higher-ranked teams, Shakib al Hasan is the greatest cricketer, indubitably, from his country.

Shakib has an overall tally of 11952 runs and 571 wickets and has performed the role of a first-choice bowler and a top-order batsman for a major part of his career.

2. Ravindra Jadeja-9.5

If there is any player who gives Stokes a run for his money to be crowned the best all-rounder of this generation is Ravindra Jadeja. The left-hander has scored 4582 runs, while batting mostly down the order, and has taken 447 wickets across conditions. In the past couple of years, Jadeja jas become almost undroppable from the Indian eleven.

1. Ben Stokes-9.5

Ben Stokes is arguably the best all-rounder of the current generation and is already spoken alongside the likes of Andrew Flintoff and Ian Botham. Apart from his numbers – 7890 runs and 256 – it is his impact that has served England pretty well. The Man of the Match of the 2019 World Cup final and the hero of Headingley, Stokes is known for his game-changing impact, and his combative nature on the field lifting up the spirits of the side.
