On Wednesday, the BCCI announced squads for India’s upcoming white-ball series against West Indies.
I was waiting for my opportunity: Ravi Bishnoi
Bishnoi, who has impressed everyone with his promising talent in IPL and domestic competitions, has a great opportunity to make his international debut against the Windies.
The 21-year-old expressed his gratitude after he received his maiden call for the Indian team as he is moments away from accomplishing his dream.
“It has been an interesting journey and it is a great honour to don the India colours. It is a proud moment for me and it feels great to see your dream come true,” Bishnoi told Sportstar.
“I was waiting for my opportunity. I was preparing myself for the big league and was keeping myself ready so that I can give my hundred per cent whenever an opportunity comes my way. My only aim was to keep performing and then wait for my turn,” he added.
I have learned a lot from Anil Kumble: Ravi Bishnoi
Bishnoi credited India’s spin bowling great Anil Kumble for his guidance and instilling confidence in him to play.
“I have learned a lot from Anil sir, and those lessons have helped me in becoming a better cricketer. He would always guide me on how to back myself and never lose hope under pressure,” Bishnoi mentioned.
“Those things were of immense help. He always told me to play to my strengths. The advice was that I should stick to my basics and just execute the plans. There was no experiment. He gave me the confidence to play freely,” he added.
It will be easier for me to adjust with KL Rahul at Lucknow Super Giants: Ravi Bishnoi
Bishnoi picked 24 wickets at an economy rate of 24.91 after playing two IPL seasons with Punjab Kings.
Recently he was picked by the new IPL franchise Lucknow Supergiants in their initial signings list along with KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis. Bishnoi said he will be comfortable once again playing under Rahul in the IPL after spending two seasons with him.
“With Rahul bhaiya (KL Rahul) leading the team, it will be easier for me to adjust since I have already played under him in Punjab. It is a great opportunity for me to be among the few players to be picked by the franchise before the auction. I want to contribute my best to the team,” he said.
India will play next against West Indies in three ODI matches and as many T20I series, the bilateral series begins on February 6 in Ahmedabad.
