Star Indian fast-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has said that the Indian bowlers will have to be ready to bowl the death overs ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia.
India, after winning the ODI series against West Indies by 3-0 at home, won all three games of the three-match T20I series at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata comfortably.

In the third game, India lost the toss and were invited to bat first and young openers Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad only added 10 runs together. However, Suryakumar Yadav (65) and Venkatesh Iyer (35) had an exceptional 91-run partnership that helped India post 184 runs.
Defending the target India pacer Deepak Chahar dismissed both the West Indies openers – Kyle Mayers and Shai Hope – quickly. Then Harshal Patel bagged a 3-wicket haul and Shardul Thakur and Venkatesh Iyer got two wickets each. With the help of an amazing bowling and batting performance, India won the third T20I by 17 runs.
Playing for India is a greater responsibility – Shardul Thakur
The 30-year-old, during the post-match presentation, said that playing for India is a greater responsibility and the bowlers will have to be mentally prepared ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
“I think so. I have done it in the IPL for CSK for the last four years. Playing for India is a greater responsibility and five months before the World Cup, we all have to be ready as a bowler to bowl in the death. You have to be ready to use your variations, you are going to go for runs but one six or four shouldn’t play on your mind. We have to be mentally tough and think about the next delivery,” Shardul told host broadcaster Star Sports.
“You have to follow a process. The basic idea was to bowl wide yorkers from the end I was bowling, maybe slower yorkers or normal yorkers,” he added.
Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur will not be seen in action during the upcoming series against Sri Lanka as he has been provided with the rest by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
