Last month, India sans Rohit Sharma suffered an embarrassing 3-0 whitewash to Proteas in the ODI series after going down 1-2 in the Test series.

India will have their work cut out: Kieron Pollard

The Indian team think-tank has altered many changes in the squad for the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies.

Pollard, who is recently led his side in a 3-2 T20I series triumph against England at home, said both the teams will have their own set of challenges in their path.

As you mentioned they (India) didn’t do too well in South Africa, and with all the other things on the outside, they will have their work cut out. But as I stated earlier for us, it is about focusing on what we can do. They will have their challenges, we will have our challenges,” Pollard said in the pre-match press conference.

“The good thing is that when we start the game tomorrow, there is no advantage or disadvantage. We start on a level-playing field and whoever plays better cricket on the day will come out on the top,” he added.

Rohit Sharma knows how to lead: Kieron Pollard

Rohit Sharma will lead the team for the first time in the 50-over format since he was handed the white-ball captaincy ahead of the South Africa tour. The Mumbai batter has recovered from a hamstring injury that ruled him from participating in the Rainbow Nation.

Pollard has played under Rohit for Mumbai Indians for more than a decade in the IPL and the West Indies all-rounder feels that the Hitman will come up with his plans against them.

Obviously, Rohit, you know, a good person, he knows how to lead, but having said that he will be coming up with his own plans and the way that he wants to play, wants the team to sort of play, so that will be a learning for them (India) as well…” Pollard asserted.

Because, yes, you have captained a couple of games but when you are a full-time captain, I think that is something sort-of different,” he added.

West Indies play against India in the first of the three ODIs on Sunday (February 6) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
