Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has reserved high praise for Suryakumar Yadav for the way he has batted since his international debut. In the ODI series against West Indies, he ended with 104 runs from three games including a fifty-plus score. He scored a career-best of 64 in the second ODI after India’s top order faltered. It was his knock that helped India get to 237 which was eventually defended by their bowlers.
Impressed by Suryakumar Yadav’s batting abilities, Sunil Gavaskar said that he is a late bloomer in the Indian team. In ODIs, he has so far played seven matches but has managed impressive numbers as a middle-order option, scoring 261 runs at 65.25 with two half-centuries. He has brought his IPL and domestic experience to the fore with the way he has batted for India since his debut.
“Exactly looks like that. With the form that we have seen in the last couple of years. And sometimes you can say that he has been a late bloomer as far as India is concerned because sometimes it helps you when you have that experience of having played that much domestic cricket for five-six years where you have played under various conditions and against different oppositions. And that helps you in international cricket. That step from first-class cricket to international cricket can be a bit too high for a lot of players. And he is bringing all that experience into play,” Gavaskar said to Star Sports.
Gavaskar lauded Suryakumar for his temperament which he thinks has separated him from the rest of his competitors for the spot in the middle order. He has been consistently batting at either four of five and came up with crucial contributions.

“He has got all the shots. But in the last couple of games it has been his temperament that has stood the test. And for me temperament separates the men from the boys. And it has certainly separated him from the others” Gavaskar said.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 34 off 36 in the first ODI against West Indies to take India to a win and scored 64 in the second ODI after the team lost early wickets to 237 which proved enough at the end for the opposition.
