The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the upcoming three-match T20I series between India National Cricket Team and West Indies National Cricket Team will be played behind closed doors despite the West Bengal government giving the permission to host the games with the 75% spectators.

The West Indies tour of India 2022 consists of six-match limited-overs series, including three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals. Also, the series will commence on February 6 and all the ODI games will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and T20 Internationals will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

In an exclusive interview with PTI, the former India captain Ganguly said that the spectators will not be allowed at the Eden Gardens for the three-match T20 International series and all the games will be played behind closed doors.

He added that only CAB officials will be allowed to enter the stadium as the BCCI don’t want to risk the health of players by allowing spectators.

“Let me put this on record. We are not allowing spectators at the Eden Gardens for the three T20 Internationals. There will not be any tickets for general public. The only people allowed are CAB officials and representatives of the various units,” he elaborated.

India National Cricket Team will be playing their 1000th One Day International match in the upcoming series against West Indies National Cricket Team on Sunday.

Ganguly, in the same interview, was asked if the BCCI is planning any special celebrations for India’s 1000th ODI, to which he responded that the “elaborate celebrations” are not possible because the BCCI will have to maintain Covid-19 protocols. He asserted:

“No, nothing as such as everything is being held in the bubble. We have to maintain the COVID-19 protocols so yes elaborate celebrations won’t be possible and in any case matches are being held closed doors.”
