Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour insisted that the 33-year-old Virat Kohli is batting well in the nets and is not going through a lean patch, at least in the white-ball formats of the game.

Kohli had scores of 8,18, and 0 in the 3-match ODI series, the first time he failed to score a fifty in a bilateral series after nearly seven years. However, his overall performances indicate that he isn’t living up to his standards but is doing well.

There have been no specific conversations with him. I personally do not think Virat is going through a lean phase at least in this format, in T20Is and ODIs, he has done well. I understand he had a poor series against the West Indies (in ODIs) but no conversation as such.

He’s batting really well in the nets and the kind of preparation he’s putting in. We are waiting for… I’m certain that in one of these innings he will be back among runs,” Rathour said in the media interaction leading up to the T20I series.

Rathour also revealed that the team is building the squad and roles for the players but it cannot be determined completely until the injured players return to the fold.

With the batting that we have, I don’t think we have any issues. All our batters are capable of batting well in those conditions. Of course, that is the focus at the moment. We are working towards the World Cup in Australia.”

Unfortunately we are struggling a little bit with the injuries at the moment, few people are missing out. Till we have everybody available it’s difficult to make sure what their role going to be. But so far that’s the focus. We have started our preparation for Australia,” Rathour added.

The T20I series begins on February 16 and will be played in Kolkata.

All eyes will be on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli throughout this T20 series, and many expect them to perform to their usual standard. Betway have Sharma and Kohli priced at 3.25 to both score 25+ runs
