IND vs WI: There's Not Much We Need To Change – Indian Captain Rohit Sharma

Indian white-ball captain Rohit Sharma has said that there is no need to change a lot of things drastically in India’s white-ball setup.

Rohit Sharma will be playing his first ODI series as a full-time captain of the Indian team in the limited-overs series against West Indies, which will begin on February 6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Also, in that match, the Men In Blue will play their 1000th ODI game.

On the eve of the first ODI against West Indies, Rohit Sharma in the press conference was asked, if there is a need to change the template, to which he replied by saying that he is open to changing things according to the situation.

“There’s not much we need to change. On certain occasions, there will be situations where we will need to change our game. Being open to doing different things at different times is a requirement and it is a talk we have had.

“It’s not like I need to come in and change things drastically. I will be giving the players the clarity of what is expected out of them,” said Rohit.

Rohit mentioned that India have a win percentage of 70 in ODIs in the last few years. He also said that India have a different way to play cricket and there is no need to copy other teams.

Our ODI win percentage has been over 70% if I am not wrong. We have tried to speak to individuals about things that need to be done. It’s not like you need to come in and copy other teams. We have a different setup, we play a certain way.

“I am open to changes in approach and have spoken to the guys about it. But, we can’t change too many things.”

Rohit Sharma further added that the Indian team doesn’t want to complicate things as they have been playing remarkable cricket for the last few years.

“We don’t want to complicate things. We have played remarkable cricket. There are certain moments we need to capitalise on. The guys coming in haven’t played a lot of ODI cricket. The experience is going to be very crucial. Over the next few months, we’ll try to do things a little differently,” he concluded.
