After winning the recently concluded T20 series by a 3-2 margin against England, West Indies are set to play three ODIs and as many T20 internationals against India.

The first ODI is slated to be played on 6th February 2022 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Here’s a look at our predicted playing XI of the West Indies Cricket Team for the first ODI.

IND vs WI: West Indies’ Predicted Playing XI Against India– India vs West Indies 2022, 1st ODI

Openers: Shai Hope and Brandon King

Shai Hope got started in the first two matches in the last ODI series against Ireland but couldn’t convert those into big scores. However, he managed to score a half-century in the last game.

For West Indies to put pressure on India, openers should get the team off to solid starts and thus Shai Hope will have a big role to play in the series. Brandon King has received a call-up in the squad. He is likely to open the batting along with Hope for the first ODI.

Middle-Order: Nicholas Pooran, Shamarh Brooks, Darren Bravo

Nicholas Pooran will continue to be part of the playing XI of the team. Being a senior batter, he needs to show a bit more consistency with the bat. Shamarh Brooks was the standout batsman in the last ODI series against Ireland.

He was the highest run-scorer for the team in the series, amassing 137 runs in 3 ODIs at an average of 45.67. Darren Bravo has been added to the squad and is likely to be part of the eleven as well.

All-rounders: Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, Odean Smith and Fabien Allen

The presence of three fast bowling all-rounders, namely Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, and Odean Smith makes them a formidable unit. They not only add depth to the batting unit but also provide options with the ball. Besides, Fabien Allen has recovered from Covid-19 and is likely to be the second spin-bowling option alongside Akeal Hosein.

Bowlers: Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph/ Kemar Roach

In the spin department, Akeal Hosein will be the biggest bet. He has been a consistent performer in white-ball cricket for West Indies since his debut. Hosein picked 6 wickets in 3 matches in the last ODI series against Ireland. Kemar Roach has been recalled into West Indies’ ODI set-up after a long time. However, he might not play the first ODI as Alzarri Joseph is also in the squad.
