Former cricketer Saba Karim came to the defence of Indian batter, Virat Kohli, after the latter’s duck in the third and final ODI against West Indies on Friday.

Kohli failed in all the matches of the 3-match series, looking like a pale shadow of his usual self. Although he took his time and got his eye in the second game, he fell chasing a wide delivery.

The prolonged lean patch is a concern for the Indian team management, as the middle-order has been exposed far too often and very early in the 50-over format. Speaking about the drought of runs, Karim mentioned that Kohli will get through this phase eventually.

Everyone is talking about @imVkohli poor form. But I don’t think it’s time to press the panic button. The slump in form is part and parcel of the game. Even greats like @sachin_rt and Gavaskar had to deal with the challenges of high expectations. This too shall pass! #INDvWI,” Karim tweeted.

Having scored just 26 runs in the three matches against the Windies, Kohli’s confidence will further take a dent. He will have a chance to make up for it in the T20I series which begins on February 16. Speaking about his dry run, Harbhajan Singh said:

Virat’s confidence, at the moment, isn’t on that level where it was an impossible task for bowlers to get him out. A lot has changed in the last three-four months.

“Even if you’re a big player, when you leave captaincy one after the other, a few things naturally start playing with your mind. He is trying his best to get out of it but things are not going his way.”
