IND vs WI: Venkatesh Iyer Earlier, Deepak Hooda Today - Aakash Chopra Frustrated At India's Mismanagement Of All-Rounders
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra expressed displeasure after Deepak Hooda was included in the first ODI’s playing XI but wasn’t given the ball despite playing as an all-rounder.
In the earlier series against South Africa, Venkatesh Iyer was not given the ball in the first ODI and he bowled very few overs in the second game. He was dropped from the final ODI, proving Chopra’s point that all-rounders aren’t being utilised properly.
“Venkatesh Iyer earlier. Hooda today. Kinda impossible to create all-rounders if they won’t get to bowl… Or… perhaps, selectors are picking players as all-rounders but the team management has little or no faith in their bowling abilities,” Chopra mentioned on Twitter.
West Indies put up 176 on the board after being asked to bat. The spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar took seven wickets between them and that enhanced Chopra’s point about keeping Hooda on the side despite a lot of spin on offer on the pitch.
“Romario Shepherd is a player you should pay attention to” – Aakash Chopra
With the IPL 2022 mega auction coming up, Chopra asserted that the Windies have a lot of players who might grab lucrative contracts. Among them, the name that stands out according to Chopra is Romario Shepherd.
“Romario Shepherd is a player you should pay attention to, he is creating some ripples and waves. Akeal Hosein, if he plays, else Hayden Walsh Jr. and Fabien Allen – they have three spin-bowling options,” Chopra added.
