Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan made his debut for team India in 2021 in the T20I series against England and came up with a superb half-century in his maiden T20I game. Since then, he has been a regular part of India’s T20I setup and has delivered the goods for them across multiple T20I series.

His numbers bear testament to the talent he has as he has gone on to score 4 half-centuries in the 19 T20Is he has played so far. He averages just above 30 in T20Is but his strike rate is a massive 131.16 in the format. More importantly, he suits the team’s new brand of aggressive cricket and can take the game away from the opposition from ball one.

It will not be wrong to say that Ishan Kishan has been sacrificed due to the problem of plenty. Ideally, he should’ve definitely been a part of the squad designated for Asia Cup 2022.

Kuldeep Yadav made a sensational comeback in IPL 2022 this year for the Delhi Capitals as he ran riot in the competition against any opponent he faced. He stayed in the hunt for the Purple Cap throughout the tournament before his very dear friend Yuzvendra Chahal clinched it right before the final.

The Chinaman from Uttar Pradesh picked up 21 wickets in this year’s IPL with a fabulous average of 19.95 and a couple of 4-wicket hauls to his name in the tournament. He was extremely unlucky to miss out on a spot in India’s squad for the T20I series against South Africa and England owing to his injuries. He was picked in the squad for the West Indies T20Is too and in the one game he played, he ended up picking 3 wickets.

Mohammed Shami

One of India’s all-time legendary pacers, Mohammed Shami, has also been left out of India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022. With his exclusion from India’s T20I setup after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, it was writings on the wall that Shami’s T20I career will take a hit and that’s what has happened.

However, the reasoning behind it from the selectors and team management hasn’t been justifiable. Shami’s T20I records might not speak a great deal for him but it should be remembered that he hasn’t been given enough opportunities since his revival in the international circuit, especially in the T20 format.

He did reasonably well for the Gujarat Titans in this year’s IPL campaign and was used very effectively by his skipper Hardik Pandya who used him in such a manner that he got wickets in the initial overs and also in the middle overs for his team in the IPL. Thus, the selectors could have persisted a bit more with Shami as is the case with other Great players and then taken a call on his role.
