Asia Cup 2022: Hong Kong Win Asia Cup Qualifier By Defeating UAE, Join India And Pakistan In Group A

Hong Kong National Cricket Team have qualified for the Asia Cup 2022 group stage round after defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 8 wickets in the Men’s T20 Asia Cup Qualifier at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground Oman Cricket (Ministry Turf 1) on Wednesday, August 24.
The Asia Cup 2022, which is the 15th edition of the tournament, is scheduled to be played from August 27 to September 11. The entire tournament is set to be held in United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the hosts Sri Lanka taking on Afghanistan in the opening clash.

The tournament was originally set to be played in Sri Lanka but was shifted to United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the economic and political crisis in the country. The matches of the tournament will be played across two venues, including Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Notably, the Asia Cup, which was last played in 2018, will be played in the T20 format with 6 teams fighting for the title. The 5 teams that will be fighting for the championship were already confirmed. Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan were the confirmed teams.
Meanwhile, UAE, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong played the Men’s T20 Asia Cup Qualifier and Hong Kong dominated in the tournament to capture the 6th spot.
Hong Kong Join Team India And Team Pakistan In Group A
Nizakat Khan-led Hong Kong won all three of their qualifying round games convincingly by defeating Singapore, Kuwait and UAE. Nizakat Khan-led side defeated Singapore by 8 runs in the tournament opener after posting 148/9 on the board and restricting Singapore to 140/7.
In their second game, the Nizakat Khan-led side chased down the 152 runs target posted by Kuwait in 17.4 overs to win the match comfortably by 8 wickets. In their final qualifying round match against UAE, they chased down the target of 148 runs in 19 overs to win by 8 wickets.
Veteran spinner Ehsan Khan was the most valuable player of Team HKG as he won the Player of the Match award in 2 games for his bowling figures of 3/20 in the first game and 4/24 in the third game.
Batter Yasim Murtaza finished as the highest run-getter in the qualifying round of the tournament with 130 runs in his bag and his teammate Ehsan Khan finished as the highest wicket-taker with 9 wickets under his belt.
Also, Hong Kong will be playing their 5th Asia Cup in 2022. They have previously been part of the multi-nation tournament in 2004, 2008, 2016 and 2018.
