Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria has kept KL Rahul on standby for the upcoming Asia Cup despite the ongoing opening gambit at the top of the order for India.
In his opinion, the daring batter should not rejoin the group right away in preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup.
Before the eagerly anticipated Asia Cup, the return to international play of Team India’s ace batter KL Rahul has been a topic of constant discussion. The right-handed hitter has not participated in an international cricket match since this past February. Fans are now eagerly anticipating seeing him in action.
Recently, KL Rahul tested positive for COVID-19. He was unable to play in the West Indies’ five-match T20I series. Before the South Africa Tour of India, Rahul had surgery for a groin issue. He returned to training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after his procedure.
The last time the skipper of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) played white-ball cricket for India was in February at home against the West Indies. In the ODI match, he scored 49 runs.
‘KL Rahul is a versatile player’: Danish Kaneria
Danish Kaneria said in a video posted to his YouTube channel:
“KL Rahul is a versatile player who can play at any position. He can keep wickets in addition to being a great fielder. Since his injury, he has not, however, participated in an international game” Danish Kaneria said.
“Since KL Rahul has not played since his injury, I have kept him on standby. After a lengthy absence, you cannot begin with him at such a large event. Give him time until the T20 World Cup, then,” Danish Kaneria added.
On August 28, Team India will face Pakistan in a thrilling contest in Dubai to kick off their Asia Cup campaign. The Men in Blue will be seeking revenge for their 10-wicket defeat at the hands of the Babar Azam-led team in the previous T20 World Cup.
