Asia Cup 2022: Sri Lanka Will Be Under Pressure From The Beginning: Sanath Jayasurya
Virat Kohli of India has the opportunity to regain his form before the World Cup, while Babar Azam will try to maintain Pakistan’s psychological advantage when the two nations square off as the featured teams of the Asia Cup, which gets underway this weekend.
During the two weeks of the T20 competition in the United Arab Emirates, the two cricketing heavyweights India and Pakistan may face off three times.
Political unrest forced the six-nation competition to relocate from Sri Lanka, and it has extra significance this year because the T20 World Cup in Australia, which will take place in October and November, is approaching quickly.
Undergods Always Do Well: Sanath Jayasurya
Former Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasurya spoke about Sri Lanka’s chances in the tournament with NDTV:
“It is going to be a tough series. We are in the group with Bangladesh and Afghanistan. T20s are always tough games, underdogs always do well so we cannot take things lightly. There will be a few other exciting games as well.
Everybody is excited to watch the India-Pakistan match. Whichever team plays well in at least two departments as bowling and batting will do well in the tournament and can win the tournament. If a team lacks in any department, it won’t go far. Sri Lanka has a good chance and I hope they do well in the tournament. From the first game itself, Sri Lanka will be under pressure but you need the pressure to perform well.
On being asked about the India-Pakistan clash he said, “India and Pakistan are always tough contests. Whenever these two teams play there are always lots of buzz around the game and people come to watch the game. Both these sides also meet rarely these days it happens only in the Asia cup or World Cups. India is a very good T20 side and Pakistan never give up, so it is going to be a balanced game. My picks for the game are Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam.
India and Pakistan play on 28th August in Dubai.
