Asia Cup 2022: "Virat Kohli Will Bat At 3 In My Playing XI": Danish Kaneria

Former Indian Virat Kohli is back in the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2022. He along with KL Rahul were the two key players back for the Asia tournament. After playing the England series Kohli was rested for the West Indies series and is now back again for the multi-nation tournament comprising the best teams from Asia.

While Virat Kohli continues to struggle with his form in recent times, the debate whether he should open the batting in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup has gathered force. Various cricket experts have given suggestions and opinions on the same.

“I Don’t Think So”: Danish Kaneria On Virat Kohli Opening The Batting In Asia Cup

Recently, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has also joined the bandwagon of cricketers who have given their expert opinion on the same. He said that with India having multiple options for opening combination in T20Is, Kohli will bat at number three in his playing XI.

“In my playing XI, Kohli will bat at No. 3. There are some people who are saying that King Kohli should open, but I don’t think so. India already have a strong opening pair.”

He further suggested that Suryakumar Yadav should open the batting with Rohit Sharma keeping the returning KL Rahul lower down the order. SKY opened in the T20I series against England and also against the West Indies.

“I will open with Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma. Suryakumar recently opened with Rohit and did quite well. KL Rahul is returning to the team, so I would want him to stay down the order. Rahul has batted and scored runs in all situations” Kaneria said.

The former Pakistan spinner further spoke about India’s ideal spin combination against Pakistan. Both teams face each other to get their campaign started. The last time Pakistan played India was in the T20 World Cup last year with the Men in Green winning by 10 wickets.

Kaneria spoke about picking Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin in the XI along with Hardik Pandya as one of the three seamers. He said that the Dubai wicket will have no dew and thus spinners will get more purchase from the wicket.

“Pandya and Jadeja will be my finishers at No. 6 and No. 7. I will play three spinners in Jadeja, Ashwin and Chahal. All three are match-turning and match-winning bowlers. There won’t be a lot of dew in Dubai, so spinners will dominate a lot. My fast bowlers would be Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh” Kaneria concluded saying.
