The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said that they have received an extension on the deadline to name the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming Asia cup 2022 to be played in UAE, thanks to them waiting on multiple reports on player injuries.

BCB, said on Saturday, that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have given them an extension to finalize their Asia Cup squad, but the announcement was delayed due to injury concerns. The deadline for announcing the Asia Cup squad is on August 8 but BCB requested the ACC to extend the time frame for them considering they are awaiting medical reports of several players.

Players like Nurul Hasan and Litton Das were ruled out of the ongoing Zimbabwe tour after sustaining injuries and look doubtful for the Asia Cup unless they recover sufficiently before the time frame.

Nurul is in Singapore to get his finger assessed and in case he doesn’t require surgery to rectify the issue, there is a chance of him making a cut last minute.

On Litton, the management is still keeping him in contention, despite him needing four weeks to recover from the hamstring injury. The other players in the injury list are Mustafizur Rahman (ankle), Mushfiqur Rahim (thumb), and Shoriful Islam (knee). Yasir Ali and Mohammad Saifuddin, who missed the Zimbabwe tour, also need to pass a fitness test.

“The long injury list have put us on the backfoot and so we requested the ACC to give some more time to finalize our squad and they have accepted it. We are waiting for the medical report and later we will finalize the squad. We will have to submit the squad before August 11,” BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus told Cricbuzz on Saturday.

Apart from this, BCB also needs to confirm their captain for the T20Is and have said that they have four options in front of them. Litton had declined the opportunity to captain Bangladesh on the Zimbabwe tour citing a focus on his batting. This was after Nurul got injured. Then there is Mahmudullah in contention as well.

The front-runner it seems is Shakib Al Hasan, who has said that he is ready to become captain only if he is given the opportunity for two years and wants to build his team targeting the next World Cup as well.
