IND vs AFG: Revealed – Why Rohit Sharma Is Not Playing Tonight Against Afghanistan

Surprisingly India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma is not playing the dead rubber Asia Cup 2022 game against Afghanistan National Cricket Team. KL Rahul, who is the designated vice-captain of the Indian team, is leading the side in the absence of Rohit.

Group stage table toppers India National Cricket Team and Afghanistan National Cricket Team are facing off in the 5th match of the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 round at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, September 8.

Both India National Cricket Team and Afghanistan National Cricket Team have already been knocked out of the tournament after losing back-to-back games in the Super 4 stage against Pakistan National Cricket Team and Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team is set to lock horns with Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team in the Asia Cup 2022 final on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma wants to take a break – KL Rahul

Speaking at the toss, KL Rahul said that the skipper Rohit Sharma wanted to take a break. He further talked about the three changes that were made in the India National Cricket Team playing XI for the dead rubber encounter against the Mohammad Nabi-led side. He elaborated:

“We wanted to bat first. We want to challenge ourselves as a batting unit. Rohit wants to take a break, playing back-to-back is not easy in these conditions.”

“Yuzi (Chahal), Rohit and Hardik miss out. Chahar, Karthik and Axar come in. Even coming into this tournament, we had the T20 WC in mind. It’s a good learning for us to play such a tournament before the World Cup. We have learnt a few things from the losses. Trying to finalise the roles that each individual will play in the World Cup.”
