Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly said India displayed great composure in a tight situation against Pakistan.

On Sunday, India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a thrilling encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked their counterparts to bat first.

Asia Cup 2022: India beat Pakistan by five wickets

In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the responsibility was on Bhuvneshwar Kumar to deliver in the high-octane contest. And so did the 32-year-old, making his wide experience count and leading the bowling unit with intensity.

Bhuvneshwar registered 4/26 from overs, including the key wicket of Pakistan captain Babar Azam in the early overs.

Bhuvneshwar was complemented by Hardik Pandya, who unleashed the bouncer deliveries, to get quick wickets of Pakistan’s middle order.

Mohammad Rizwan played his best during his 42-ball 43, including four boundaries and a six, and added 45 runs with Iftikhar Ahmed (28) in the fourth wicket stand.

Some handy cameos by Harris Rauf (13 not out) and Shahmawaz Dahani (16) helped Pakistan to post 147 on the board

While chasing 148, Hardik was unbeaten on 33 off 17 balls and forged a crucial partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (35 off 29 balls), the duo added 52 runs for the fifth wicket, a massive factor for the Rohit Sharma-led side in the victory.

Hardik smashed three boundaries off Harris Rauf in the penultimate over to get India closer to the margin. With seven runs needed in the last over, Mohammad Nawaz castled Jadeja on the first ball.

Nawaz bowled a dot ball to Hardik on the third delivery to mount the pressure, but the Indian all-rounder, nonchalantly, launched him for a six-over long-on to snatch the game.

India showed a lot of composure in tight situations: Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian skipper Ganguly said it was a good start for Rohit Sharma and his men in the quest for their title defence in the Asia Cup.

Good result for india to start off..lot of composure in a tight situation ..@bcci @ImRo45,” tweeted Ganguly.

India will play their second match of Asia Cup 2022 against Hong Kong on August 31 at the same venue.
